The National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has expressed the view that the APC is facing crisis because it is a popular party.
Tinubu made the observation while addressing journalists after casting his vote during the local government election in Alausa, Ikeja, on Sturday.
The former governor of Lagos State said his party has overcome the crisis that broke out after the primary election in the state.
Noting that conflict resolution is part of democracy, Tinubu said, “nobody abrogated anybody’s right”.
According to Tinubu, “the exercise is going on smoothly. Thanks to the people of Lagos state. The streets are empty. The people respect the governor and the call by the party for them to come out and cast their votes.
“Look at the turnout within a short period of time. We have peace at various local government areas. I have been monitoring other local government areas. We are doing well.”
On efforts made to resolve the crisis in the party, the former governor said: “Is it not politics? You must have twists and turns… if you are a popular party, there’s no way you will not face the turbulence of democracy.
“When we have 57 local governments and local council development areas, the problem is that you have many people willing to use your party’s platform but you can only have one chairman, one councillor in a ward and you have many people fighting for slots.
“Considering that conflict resolution is the hallmark of democracy, you have to find a way to resolve all conflicts, and we have done so. That is why we have peace today. When you are in politics, you should expect that level of anxiety.”
