The Yoruba Unity Forum, a socio-cultural organisation in Nigeria, has mourned the death of the former Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, on November 19, 2017.
In a statement signed by the president of the forum, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu described Ekwueme as “an astute politician who invented the six geopolitical zonal structure that has brought stability to our body polity.”
Ekwueme, late Ide of the Oko kingdom in Anambra state was instrumental in the establishment of the Southern Nigeria Peoples Assembly (SNPA); he also provided leadership quality in the landmark achievement of SNPA including the convocation of the 2014 National Conference.
The forum also commiserated with the family of Ekwueme, the southeastern parts of the country and Nigeria as a whole over the exit of the political icon.
