Wike’s son Jordan faces EFCC probe over $2.1m Abuja land deal

Two firms have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over an alleged $2.1 million land transaction.

The petition, filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, alleges fraud, obtaining money by false pretence, criminal misappropriation and conversion in connection with the transaction.

The petitioners alleged that Jordan received $2.1 million on September 26, 2025, at a residence in Gwarinpa, Abuja, in the presence of two witnesses.

They claim that the payment was made pursuant to a joint venture arrangement under which Jordan was expected to secure 30 hectares of land in Katampe and another 30 hectares in Guzape, both in the Federal Capital Territory.

The firms, however, alleged that Jordan failed to fulfil his obligations under the agreement, leading to the dispute.

They have consequently asked the EFCC to investigate the transaction and determine whether the circumstances surrounding the payment and the alleged failure to fulfil the agreement constitute criminal offences.According to the petition, the $2.1 million was paid to Jordan on September 26, 2025, during a meeting at a residence in Gwarinpa.

The petitioners said two witnesses were present when the payment was allegedly made.

They further alleged that the funds were provided in connection with the proposed acquisition of a combined 60 hectares of land, comprising 30 hectares in Katampe and 30 hectares in Guzape.

The firms claimed that the transaction did not proceed as agreed after the payment was made.

They are therefore asking the EFCC to examine the circumstances surrounding the transaction, including the receipt and alleged handling of the funds.

The allegations contained in the petition include obtaining money by false pretence, fraud, criminal misappropriation and conversion.

The petition to the EFCC comes against the backdrop of an existing civil case over the transaction.

Counsel to the petitioners, Ibrahim Waru, said the civil aspect of the dispute is already before the FCT High Court.

He explained that the petition was intended to enable the EFCC to examine the alleged criminal elements of the transaction, separate from the civil claims being litigated before the court.

The civil proceedings are before Justice Sylvester Oriji of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja.

The court has adjourned the case until December 1, 2026, for continuation of trial.
