Wike’s loyalists kick against conduct of Rivers LG polls

* Cite court order

Hundreds of loyalists of former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Saturday, staged a protest in Port Harcourt, as the local government elections got underway.

The Wike supporters who carried various placards marched to the office of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) asking the commission to comply with a recent High Court judgment regarding the council elections, citing irregularities in the electoral process.

The demonstrators, while waving placards with messages such as “Obey Court Order” and “No Justice, No Election,” said they were frustrated over the conduct of the elections and demanded that RSIEC halt the polls and abide by the court’s ruling.

Some of the protesters, who spoke to journalists, wondered why the RSIEC refused to abide by a recent judgment by the Rivers State High Court, which ordered the suspension of the elections following legal challenges to the process which promoted the Wike camp to call for a postponement of the election.
