For the umpteenth time, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, is crying out to Nigerians still complacent to wake up and save their country from collapsing under the weight of poor and insensitive government of President Bola Tinubu.
“We must speak when things are wrong; Nigeria is collapsing; the numbers are clear; the indices are clear; more and more people are poorer. People who used to feed well are now begging, even in this hotel. Any time I enter this hotel, I see people telling me, ‘Oga, I came to Abuja; I can’t go back,’ Obi told LP members at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja on Wednesday.
Decrying the level of poverty and hardship Nigerians are facing, the former Governor of Anambra State, said things have gotten bad, and time had come for citizens to rise, stand together for the right things, starting from the members of the party.
He added: “Where I used to go that people ask me, ‘Oga will you eat? Will you drink?’ Nobody is asking me anything again. That shows you how bad it is. So, let us know that things are difficult, things are bad. Let us stand together and ensure that the right things, starting from our party, are done.”
It was also a day Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, spoke of his previous efforts to bring peace to the party, including offering Julius Abure, who led it to its staller performance in the 2023 election, the position of Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), all which failed.
Otti spoke alongside other bigwigs of the LP, such as Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate, Ester Nenadi Usman, former Minister of Finance and Chairman of the LP Caretaker Committee, as well as the state and National Assembly caucuses, where a resolution was made, reaffirming the mandate of the current leadership under the committee.
The meeting, held at the Transcorp Hotel Abuja, followed the release of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of last Friday’s Supreme Court judgment, which they said clearly showed that the Abure leadership had finally given way, and opened the way for a new beginning.
