Umahi sacks Ebonyi varsity bursar, suspends ASUU chairman

Ebonyi State governor, Chief David Umahi, Wednesday sacked the bursar of Ebonyi State University, Mr. Chris Ngwuta, over an alleged illegal process that brought him into office.

Umahi who made this known during a press briefing in Abakaliki, ordered the bursar to vacate the university with immediate effect, adding that he was not informed of his reappointment.

The governor also announced the suspension of the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ebonyi State University chapter, Prof. Idenyi, as well as its former chairman, Prof. Emeka Nwakpu, for alleged miss-information of lecturers.

He also lamented that the tenure of Prof. Idenyi has long expired, alleging that he was operating illegally.

Investigation revealed that the suspension of the two professors followed a disagreement between the governor and the leadership of the ASUU over the strike the union embarked upon last Monday.

Recall that the governor had on last Monday met with the leadership of the union over the strike.

It was gathered that all the decisions reached with the union were letter disregarded by the lecturers.

The governor also froze the accounts of the university.
