Troops nab notorious mercenary, kidnappers in Taraba

Troops from the 93 Battalion, Takum, Taraba State, have arrested a notorious mercenary and 12 other suspected criminals in different parts of the State.

Colonel Sagir Musa, Deputy Director Army Public Relations 82 Division, in a statement on Wednesday, said the battalion had handed over the suspects and exhibits to the Commissioner of Police, Taraba State for further action.

He gave the names of the suspects as Mr. Babatunde Oladiji (48) – a mercenary caught with AK 47 rifles and 10 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition.

Oladiji is now with the Divisional Police Officer, Takum Local Government, Taraba State, the Army spokesman said.

Others are: Igba Shiaondo (26), Mngo Asui (38), Dengi Usman (28), Sani Ali – (20), Suleiman Yahaiya (20), Umar Sanda (19), Zakari Umar (20), Ishiaku Gado (19), and Mulega Uma (21).

He further named Yusuf Gbokolo (20), Msughter Uter (27), and Innocent Danwua (47), as the remaining suspects.

The statement added that two impersonators, dressed in Nigerian Army camouflage uniform with walking boots (Makrop Jonah – 26 years and Nanbal James – 22 years), were apprehended by a patrol team of 93 Battalion at Ibi Local Government Area, Delta State.

“On questioning, the suspects claimed to be personnel of the Nigerian Navy Tactical Operations Unit in Delta State on “reconnaissance” for possible deployment on Ibi Water Ways.

“Further scrutiny indicated that they are fake. Consequently, as a Nigerian Army and indeed 82 Division principle, they too were transferred to the Nigerian Police Force Taraba State for necessary action.”
