A correctional officer attached to the Burra Correctional Centre in Bauchi State has reportedly killed his colleague following a minor dispute over food.
The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, around 2pm in Burra town, Ningi Local Government Area.
Reports quoting an unnamed eyewitness said the deceased officer, Aliyu Abubakar Chiroma, and his colleague Kabiru Abubakar, were known to be close friends within the correctional facility.
The altercation reportedly began when Chiroma brought his lunch, and Kabiru insisted on eating, which led to a heated argument between them.
The Public Relations Officer of the correctional centre, Aminu Ahmed, who confirmed the incident, clarified that the incident occurred outside the correctional facility.
He noted that Chiroma, the deceased, hailed from Giade LGA, while the suspect, Kabiru Abubakar, is from Dass LGA, saying both officers were posted to Burra Correctional Centre.
Ahmed added that the deceased’s body has been handed over to his family for burial, while the suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
