Tinubu urges Nigerians to support security agencies in war against terror

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to wholeheartedly support security agencies in the fight against terrorism and other violent crimes by providing timely and useful information to authorities.

The President said the battle against insecurity should not be seen solely as a military operation but as a collective national responsibility requiring the cooperation of all citizens.

In a message posted on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, on Monday, Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and assist security agencies in safeguarding communities across the country.

“The fight against terror is not only a military operation. It is a national duty. Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he stated.

The President also expressed profound gratitude to members of the Armed Forces, the Police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, intelligence agencies, local security formations and other frontline personnel for their commitment to national security.

He commended the courage and resilience of security operatives serving in forests, on highways, in the air, in creeks and at forward operating bases across the country.

“I commend all our patriotic front-line soldiers in the fight against terrorism in all forms. You stand as a shield between innocent citizens and those who seek to destroy the peace, safety, and dignity of our communities,” Tinubu said.

According to him, security personnel continue to bear the burden of protecting the nation so that millions of Nigerians can go about their daily activities in safety and hope.

The President acknowledged that the fight against terrorism and violent crime has come with enormous sacrifices, pain and pressure, but noted that the resolve of security operatives has remained unwavering.

“This fight has not been easy. It has come with pain, pressure, and sacrifice. But your courage has remained firm. Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured. Your country does not take you for granted,” he said.

Tinubu also paid tribute to the families of security personnel, noting that many endure long separations, anxious moments and the emotional demands associated with national service.

He said the sacrifices of military and security families would not be forgotten by the nation.

The President further honoured officers and men who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing them as heroes whose sacrifices helped preserve communities and protect the country.

“We honour those who have paid the supreme price in defence of our country. Their names may not always trend, but their courage lives on in rescued communities, protected families, and the survival of the nation they served,” he stated.

Reaffirming his administration’s determination to defeat insecurity, Tinubu declared that Nigeria would not bow to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers or violent extremists.

“Nigeria will not surrender to fear. We will not allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define who we are as a people. Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed, or community,” the President said.

He thanked security personnel for their vigilance and dedication, while praying for divine protection over them as they continue to defend the nation.
