Tinubu tasks Buhari to crush bandits, terrorists

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy all available means to rid the country of bandits and Boko Haram insurgents.

The former governor of Lagos State said this when he paid a condolence visit to Katsina State governor, Aminu Masari, over the death of the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Rabe Nasir.

Nasir was killed by gunmen at his Katsina home in December last year.

Tinubu said he would not relent in his support for the President in the ongoing efforts to end insecurity in Nigeria.

He said: “It’s not easy to get to the seed of a palm kernel without a cracker. We will continue to pray with you to conquer the evil of sudden kidnapping, maiming, and killing of innocent lives.

“We are here only to grieve on the wicked assassination of the Commissioner of Science and Technology, Dr. Rabe Nasir.

“He (Nasir) has been to me with the governor on a number of occasions. His Excellency introduced him to me as one of the most reliable and resourceful individuals in Katsina State with a very broad knowledge of Nigeria as a country,” Tinubu added.

Meanwhile, Tinubu’s advice came at a time Buhari issued a fresh directive to the Armed Forces to commence a major military operation against the terrorists.

In the latest directive, President Buhari charged the military to apply force in their strategic operations.

The directive may not be unconnected with security reports reaching the presidency, indicating that the incessant attacks on communities by bandits may be as a result of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists who are fleeing theatres of war, particularly in the North-West and North-East parts of the country.
