  • Names Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as replacement

President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, dismissed Saidu Mohammed from his role as Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Mohammed was appointed to lead the agency just four months ago.

Tinubu has nominated Mr Rabiu Abdullahi Umar to become the new Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, pending Senate approval.

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, in a post via the microblogging platform X, said the decision was made “in the public interest” and follows the rules set out in the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

The statement added: “The President has also approved the nomination of Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the NMDPRA. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.”

The statement also said this change aims to improve regulation in the midstream and downstream petroleum sector as part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Until the Senate confirms the new nominee, the most senior official at the NMDPRA will serve as the agency’s acting head.

The president thanked the outgoing NMDPRAchiefs for his service and wished him success in his future plans.
