Tinubu declares all NASS members ‘re-elected’ amid gaffe at budget presentation

The presentation of the 2025 budget to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu started off on a dramatic note on Wednesday.

It followed a gaffe by President Tinubu, when he referred to the joint session of the federal lawmakers as “the 11th National Assembly”.

However, the lawmakers quickly corrected the President by shouting “10th Assembly”. In response, Tinubu told the lawmakers that he wrote “11th”.

That elicited raucous laughter from the lawmakers. But before the laughter could subside, Tinubu added that ‘”that means that you are all re-elected,” an assertion that elicited even louder cheers from the lawmakers.

Prior to Tinubu’s budget presentation, the lawmakers had sang the controversial ‘on your mandate we stand’ chorus, to cheer up the president.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in his welcome speech, lauded Tinubu for his achievements so far in office.

He also lauded the President for facilitating constituency projects for lawmakers.

Akpabio also promised that the lawmakers will continue to support policies and initiatives of President Tinubu, especially the Tax Reform Bills.
