Tension was palpable Tuesday following a clash between the police and local hoodlums in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos.
The Police were also members of Lagos State Task Force on environmental matters.
Following the clash, there was heightened tension, particularly about the safety of members of the NYSC whose camp is located in that part of town.
Reports say operatives of the Task Force had arrived to raid some erring motorcycle operators only to be confronted by daring hoodlums. The latter allegedly attacked the task force officials.
It was gathered that the task force squad which was almost overpowered by the hoodlums, was said to have called for reinforcement.
The arrival of their colleagues led to a fight as the miscreants began to hurl dangerous weapons at the security operatives.
Traders and commuters also ran for safety when the hoodlums were tear-gassed by the team of mobile policemen that arrived the scene.
Meanwhile, some of the hoodlums were also seen just a stone throw from the NYSC orientation camp.
The military personnel attached to the NYSC orientation camp prevented them from causing commotion near the camp.
The soldiers were also seen beating up some of the hoodlums who were caught.
