Teenager jailed for stealing goat

A Kaduna Chief Magistrate Court has sentenced a teenager – David Jonah – to 30 days imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to stealing a he-goat before.

The police charged Jonah with two count of trespass and stealing.

Earlier, the prosecution, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that one Samson John reported the matter at the station on November 29.

According to Leo, the defendant went into the complainant’s compound while he was at the farm and stole his he-goat worth N65,000.

He said the defendant was caught by a neighbour who saw him coming out of the compound with the goat.

Leo said the offence contravened the provisions of Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentence Jonah after he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

He, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and warned him to desist from crime.

Emmanuel further advised the convict to focus on his studies or learn a trade, as the court will not be lenient with him next time.
