TCN restores flood-hit Oworonshoki transformer, announces 3-day power outage in Delta

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-day planned power outage in parts of Delta State to facilitate critical maintenance works at its Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation.

The company said the planned outage would run daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between July 2 and July 4, 2026, during which electricity supply to several communities across Delta State would be temporarily disrupted.

It also disclosed that normal power supply has been restored to customers served by the Oworonshoki substation following the repair of a transformer damaged by heavy flooding.

In separate statements issued on Wednesday by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN explained that engineers in its Delta Sub-Region would install a 132kV bus coupler circuit breaker and rehabilitate five isolators on the main bus bar at the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation as part of efforts to improve the reliability and efficiency of the transmission network.

According to the company, the maintenance exercise will prevent the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) from receiving bulk power from the transmission station for onward distribution to customers in Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, PTI, PMSL, Enerhen, Refinery I and Refinery II during the daily maintenance period.

TCN further stated that all 33kV feeders supplied from the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation would remain out of service for the duration of the work, affecting electricity supply to Isoko/Kwale, Otovwodo/Patani, Ughelli/Shell, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Imoniyame and Beta Glass.

The company apologised to electricity consumers in the affected areas for the inconvenience and assured them that power supply would be restored by 5:00 p.m. at the end of each day’s maintenance work.

Meanwhile, TCN announced that the TR1 60MVA transformer at the Oworonshoki 132/33kV Transmission Substation, which was forced out of service following heavy flooding at the facility, has been successfully restored.

The company said its maintenance crew completed the restoration at exactly 7:53 a.m. on June 30, 2026, enabling the resumption of bulk electricity supply to the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) for onward distribution to customers within the affected network.

It added that all feeders radiating from the Oworonshoki Transmission Substation are now fully operational, bringing relief to customers who experienced supply interruptions following the flooding incident.

Reaffirming its commitment to delivering a stable and reliable transmission network, TCN said it would continue to invest in infrastructure upgrades and timely maintenance to improve power supply across the country, while appreciating consumers for their patience and understanding during the temporary disruptions.
