Shops and offices were, late Friday and early Saturday morning, razed by two separate fire incidents recorded in the Agege and Yaba areas of Lagos State.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the fire incidents in a statement on Saturday morning.
Adeseye said the first incident was reported at 10:46pm on Friday at Tower Aluminium Village, along Abeokuta Expressway, Dopemu, Agege.
She said fire crews from Ikeja and Agege stations responded promptly to the emergency, effectively dousing the fire, which affected multiple offices and stores of varying sizes.
According to her, the structures, situated on a land area of approximately 2,592 square metres within a premises spanning about four acres, suffered significant damage to affected sections and their contents.
The controller disclosed that the second incident occurred about 03:15 am on Saturday at a three-storey commercial building located on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the NLC Office, Tejuosho, Yaba.
The building, which housed shops and stores containing stacked textile materials, was engulfed by fire.
“Firefighters from Somolu, Ilupeju, and Sari Iganmu Fire Stations were swiftly mobilised to the scene and successfully contained the blaze, preventing further spread to adjoining properties,” she said.
Adeseye reiterated the importance of fire safety precautions and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially in commercial areas where flammable materials are stored.
She noted that further investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fires.
