Anxiety as security operatives uncover weapons on ‘swimmers’ at Lagos beach

Fear gripped residents in Badagry, Lagos State, after security personnel reportedly recovered weapons from some motorcyclists identified by witnesses as Fulani during a security screening exercise.
A video circulating on social media showed a large number of men arriving at the beach area on motorcycles while security operatives conducted searches on them.

The discovery sparked concern among beach-goers, many of whom feared the presence of armed individuals in a location regularly visited by families, tourists and fun seekers.

In the video, a narrator expressed alarm over the development and commended the security personnel for carrying out the search.

“This is Badagry. We are coming here for amusement; see what Abokis are bringing, see what is in their hands. They are coming with weapons,” the narrator said.

“And this is where we have thousands of people coming here for fun. I also have experience inside where these people are pressing the yansh and breast of our ladies. We have to tighten the security. Kudos to the security,” he added.

The footage showed security officials inspecting individuals and items allegedly brought into the beach area, while several motorcycles were seen parked nearby.

The exact number of people searched and the nature of the weapons recovered could not be independently verified at the time of filing this report.

The incident has nevertheless generated concern among residents and visitors, with some calling on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and screening measures at public recreation centres across Lagos.

As of the time of this report, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and it remained unclear whether any arrests were made or if the recovered weapons were legally possessed.

The development comes amid growing security concerns in parts of the country, with citizens increasingly demanding stricter security checks at public gatherings and recreational facilities.
