Security operatives foil gunmen attack in Anambra, kill two

Two gunmen have been neutralised in a foiled attack on security agents under the aegis of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in Anambra State.

Reports say the gunmen launched the attack around 3 am on Monday. However, the security agents were said to have “vehemently” resisted the assailants in a gun battle, recovering two AK-47 rifles.

The spokesman for the Anambra Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.

Ikenga noted that the police were already in a joint operation with the AVG operatives to arrest the fleeing gang members whom he said “sustained gunshot injuries and otherwise during the unfortunate incident”.

“The AVG Operatives repelled the attack in the early hours of today 19/6/2023 at their office at Okija, demobilized two of the attackers, and recovered two Ak47 rifles. No life was lost among the operatives and the AVG office is still intact,” he added.

“Also, the Command wants to use this opportunity to call on the proprietors of both private and public hospitals to admit but report all persons with gunshot or related injuries to the nearest police station.”
