Sagay refutes Magu’s rumoured sack as EFCC Chair

Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay, has dismissed speculations that acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has been sacked.

His ‘removal’ has been a subject of debate in many quarters in the past few days, following the declaration by the Senate that it does not recognize him as EFCC helmsman.

The Senate spoke through its Chairman, Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The lawmaker had at a press conference on Thursday, explained that there were massive petitions against the EFCC, but they could not invite Magu because he was no longer regarded as the acting chairman.

“There are petitions against the EFCC by some Nigerians, but my Committee does not see Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman and that is why he was not invited”, Anyanwu said.

“The 2018 budget is here, we will it as instrument against EFCC for defying Senate resolution on Ibrahim Magu,” he had submitted.

But in his reaction, Sagay said speculations over Magu’s job should be ignored.

“I am certainly not aware of it and it is untrue. It is certainly untrue, he has not been removed,” he told a newspaper.

“It is the rumours of those who wish corruption continues in this country and who want corruption to thrive.

”It is wishful thinking, he has not been removed,” Sagay stated.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, was not in any position to clarify the situation.
