Rivers varsity expels final year student over false claims against lecturer

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Rivers State, has expelled a final-year student, Nora Onyewuenyi Chiamaka, for publishing what it described as damaging content against the institution.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ngozi Okiridu, announced the expulsion in a statement on Monday after the Senate’s approval.

The student, with matric number U/2022/19900 in the Department of English and Literary Studies, had in a viral interview claimed her project topic was “Citizenship” and that her supervisor wrote the project for her.

The university said no such topic exists in the department, describing the claim as false.

The management said that Onyewuenyi admitted she made the claims to generate social media content, but refused to retract despite appeals.

According to the statement, the action was taken to deter other students from similar conduct capable of bringing the institution to disrepute.

No details of the disciplinary hearing were given, nor whether the student will appeal the decision.
