The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 272 senior officers across various ranks in what it described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership, professionalism and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The promotions include the elevation of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to Commissioners of Police (CPs), 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to Deputy Commissioners (DCPs), 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to ACPs, and the confirmation of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) as substantive Assistant Superintendents of Police I (ASP I).
Among those promoted to the rank of AIG are the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu; Itam Nnaghe Obono of the Counter Terrorism Unit; Bassey Samuel Ewah of Plateau State Command; Monday Agbonika of Edo State Command; Iyamah Daniel Adebor of Bayelsa State Command; Isa Danladi Nda of Abia State Command; Afegbua B. Rashid of Cross River State Command; Haruna Alaba Yahaya of Jigawa State Command; Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent of Benue State Command and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin of the Force Welfare Department, among others.
The Commission also elevated 17 Deputy Commissioners to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police, while 28 ACPs and 33 CSPs moved to their next ranks after successfully completing the Commission’s written promotion examination and oral interview conducted at its headquarters in Abuja.
The approvals were part of resolutions reached during the Commission’s plenary meeting held on July 1 at its Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through discipline, integrity and professional service.
“You must remain truthful, transparent and accountable in the discharge of your responsibilities. Maintain the highest level of professionalism and avoid involvement in civil disputes, especially land matters,” Argungu said.
He further reminded the officers that promotion comes with greater responsibility and advised them to protect their reputation throughout their careers.
“Guard your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you. Always remember that there is life after retirement,” he added.
The latest promotion exercise is expected to strengthen command structures across the Nigeria Police Force, boost personnel morale and improve policing as the Force continues efforts to tackle insecurity and enhance public confidence in law enforcement nationwide.
