Suspected sea pirates have reportedly abducted at least 10 maritime travelers along the Bonny–Port Harcourt waterway, in Rivers State.
Reports said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, between Bonny Island and Port Harcourt.
The Chairman, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria Rivers State district, Israel Pepple, reportedly said: “It’s not a rumour, it is real. 10 persons have been kidnapped this morning coming from Bonny to Port Harcourt. We’ve reported to the security agencies”.
The Police Public Relations Officer also confirmed receiving the report that 10 people were kidnapped, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu has mandated the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olugbenga Adepoju and the DPOs in that area to make sure the victims regain their freedom as soon as possible.
