Police arrest drug dealer in Abia, recover cocaine, meth

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man identified as Prince Chukwudi Eguzouwa, who it described as a suspected drug dealer operating in Ahiabubi, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

Police said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Violent Response Unit and Anti-Cultism Unit on September 18, 2026.

According to the command, the operation targeted suspected criminal hideouts in Ahiabubi and resulted in the arrest of Eguzouwa, a native of the community.

The police also said they recovered several bags containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, “Scottish Loud”, methamphetamine, cocaine and other hard drugs during the raid.

Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the operation was conducted in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Afolabi, and the Inspector-General of Police’s emphasis on intelligence-led policing.

The statement said the suspect was allegedly known within the community as a drug dealer before his arrest.

“Operatives of the Violent Response Unit and Anti-Cultism Unit, acting on actionable intelligence, on 18/09/2026, carried out a well-coordinated raid on criminal hideouts at Ahiabubi, Isiala Ngwa North LGA, where the above-mentioned suspect, known as a notorious drug dealer within the community, was apprehended,” the statement said.

The police said the investigation into the case was concluded and Eguzouwa was arraigned before a court on September 22.

According to the command, the court subsequently ordered that he be remanded in a correctional facility.

The police did not disclose the specific charges filed against the suspect in the statement.

Reacting to the arrest, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations against criminal activities across Abia State.

Afolabi warned individuals involved in criminal activities that the command would continue to target criminal hideouts and disrupt activities considered a threat to public safety.
