A former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, slumped on Tuesday evening, February 3, 2026, while attempting to access his office premises in Abuja.
A statement by his media assistant, Emmanuel Umahi Ekwe, confirmed that Maina was immediately rushed to a private hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to the statement, the incident followed complications from an untreated knee injury, which caused him to lose his balance while climbing a staircase leading to his office.
He reportedly fell during the episode, hitting his head on the staircase.
Medical personnel present at the scene administered first aid before he was conveyed to a medical facility in the Federal Capital Territory, where he remains under close observation.
The statement further revealed that preliminary medical assessments led attending doctors to advise that arrangements for an air ambulance medical evacuation be considered if his condition fails to stabilize quickly.
“Dr. Maina is currently receiving close medical care and remains under observation, while his family and medical team are closely monitoring his progress,” the statement said.
The family has appealed to the public for prayers and requested that their privacy be respected during this time.
Maina’s public recent appearance follows his release in February last year from the Kuje Prison after serving time for a money-laundering conviction involving over N2 billion in pension funds.
