PDP’s Nwogu wins Rivers S’East senatorial by-election

The Independent National Election (INEC) has declared candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Olaka Nwogu, winner of the Rivers State Southeast senatorial by-election held on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Returning Officer for the election, Rosemary Ogu, said Nwogu scored 47,961 votes to win the election, which was contested by only four political parties.

Other parties that contested the election were the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP) and the Action Alliance (AC).

She said Douglas Beke Fabeke of AA got 1,175 votes; Osarosaka Ebenezer of the APC, received 1,647 votes while Sam Bariboa of the LP scored 367 votes.

All the parties and their candidates for the election belonged to the Raibow coalition formed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwogu will replace Senator Barinada Mpigi, who died in office on February 19, 2026.
