PDP finally dumps Anyanwu, okays Koshoedo as National Secretary

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the nomination of Arc. Setonji Koshoedo as its new National Secretary.

The acting National Chairman of the party, Amb Umar Iliya Damagun, disclosed this to journalists at the end of the NWC meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.

Anyanwu was the National Secretary of the party before he contested for the 2024 gubernatorial election in Imo State. He was subsequently replaced by Sunday Ude-Okoye.

The Supreme Court, on March 21, held that the issue of party leadership positions, including that of the National Secretary of the PDP, is entirely an internal affair of the political parties, which the courts have no jurisdiction oveer.

Damagun said the NWC adopted the recommendation of the PDP Governors on the issue of the Party’s National Secretary. This, he said, would be forwarded to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party.

Meanwhile, Damagum disclosed that the NEC meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, May 27, 2025, in line with the recommendation of the Governors’ Forum.

Speaking on the recent defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Damagum disclosed that the party has mandated its National Legal Adviser to approach the court “and do the needful”.

He said a decision was reached directing the Emma Ogidi-led South-South Zonal caretaker executive to take charge of the running of the party affair in Delta sSate pending the constitution of a caretaker committee. It also mandated the zonal committee to move to Delta and take stock of the party inventory towards recovering them.
