PDP begins 8-day fasting, prayer to restore Ihedioha as governor

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not leaving anything to chance as it approaches the Supreme Court, asking it to reinstate Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo State.

Thus, it has taken its quest to the spiritual realm with a week-long fasting and prayer.

The Supreme Court removed Ihedioha from office of governor on January 14, and declared Senator Hope Uzodinma of the APC as the new governor of the State.

But Ihediaoha and his party – PDP – argue that the apex court was wrong in removing his from office, hence they seek a review of the judgement.

The State secretary of the party, Mr. Emeana Nze, directed the party members to observe an eight-day prayer and fasting beginning from February 9, for the restoration of Ihedioha as governor by the apex court.

Nze wrote: “During this period, all ward excos should request Mass in their local churches and assembly at the local government area party secretariats daily at noon for prayer and breaking of fast.”

The party also requested all its members to wear black attires during the period of fasting (February 9 – February 16) to depict mourning.

Meanwhile, the Imo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has pledged its support for the new governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

The group said its support for Uzodinama is “morally and formally justifiable”, insisting that the Supreme Court that declared him winner of the governorship election “is the heartbeat of our democratic institution and the temporal last hope of the common man.”

The president of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Imo State, Mr. Ezechi Chukwu, said:

“Imo State chapter of Ohanaeze has therefore taken a critical, dispassionate and objective analysis of the entire narrative. Senator Hope Uzodinma dully contested the election in accordance with the electoral act.

“His post-election recourse to the judiciary for redress is constitutional and equally in consonance with the extant laws of the land, his fundamental human rights are equally harmonious with the charters of the various international organizations.

“Imo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo consequently upholds strongly at 360 degrees the election of Senator Hope Uzodinma, as pronounced by the highest court of the land on January 14, 2020.”

Chukwu continued: “Our support for Governor Uzodinma is both morally and formally justifiable because the judiciary which upheld his mandate is the heartbeat of our democratic institution and the temporal last hope of the common man.

“You may recall that Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha was declared the winner of the March 2019 gubernatorial election in Imo. Imo State Ohanaeze Ndigbo supported him because it was an election which was validated by both the electoral umpire and judiciary.”
