Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti, has described leaders of pensioners in the State as dishonest persons leading honest people.
The governor thus accused the main opposition party in the State – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – of inciting the leaders of the pensioners to lie against his administration regarding agreements on gratuities and pensions.
Otti stated this on Thursday at the Government House in Umuahia, during the January edition of his media chat with journalists.
He said investigations he carried out showed that the PDP is sponsoring leaders of the pensioners to deny that they entered an agreement with his administration on their gratuities and inherited pensions.
“Pensioners are honest people; their leaders are dishonest, and we don’t reward dishonesty. If you made a mistake, you come and say: ‘I made a mistake.’ Don’t say you didn’t sign. Don’t say you were deceived to sign,” Otti berated leaders of the pensioners.
He went on: “And I have investigated it and found out that it is the PDP. Even their lawyer is a PDP lawyer.”
Otti, who said that his administration is no longer listening to criticism from the opposition, added that distractions from the opposition’s “noise” cannot stop him from the work he is doing in the State.
He noted that his administration has taken bold steps in healthcare delivery, education, and infrastructure, which he said would be sustained.
