* Frontline governorship aspirants panic
Typical of Nigerian politics, this is the season of decampments and realignments among the political class, as they scheme to realize their ambition.
Barely 24 hours after Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in search of “greener pasture” in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Ondo State deputy governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, sensationally resigned his membership of the APC in Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo Local Government Area.
This came some hours after he was restrained from going out of the Government House in Alagbaka, Akure, the State capital, by the Mr. Police Commissioner, Bolaji Salami and his team.
Tendering his resignation letter at the APC Secretariat in Apoi Ward 2, Ese Odo LGA on Sunday, Ajayi said everybody is aware why he left the party.
Shortly after, he went to the Secretariat of the PDP in the ward, where he announced his defection to the party and obtained a membership party card.
Meanwhile, Ajayi’s arrival at the PDP seems already to have stirred up anxiety especially among aspirants of the party in the State.
Unconfirmed report has it that some party leaders favour Ajayi to emerge as governorship candidate of the party, a position that does not sit well with frontline aspirants.
It was gathered that all the governorship aspirants, especially those who have obtained nomination forms, refused to step down, insisting on slogging it out with Ajayi in the primary.
