Obasanjo pays Adeleke surprise visit after Osun guber victory

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, following the latter’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.

Obasanjo visited Adeleke on Sunday, shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent the winner of the election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Reports of the former president’s visit emerged on Sunday night, with videos showing Obasanjo congratulating Adeleke on his re-election and celebrating the outcome of the election with the governor.

The visit came amid widespread congratulatory messages from political leaders following Adeleke’s victory.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier called Adeleke to congratulate him on his re-election, while other prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, also commended the Osun electorate and congratulated the governor.

Obasanjo’s surprise visit adds to the growing list of high-profile political endorsements and goodwill gestures extended to Adeleke following his successful bid for a second term in office.
