NSCDC arrests father of 8 for raping 11-year-old girl

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 65-year-old man for allegedly raping an 11-year-old orphan repeatedly.

The command also paraded five suspects including two ex-convicts who specialise in killing motorcycle owners before disposing of their machines.

Also, a female money counterfeiter and five sex workers were paraded, on Monday, by the Command.

The alleged rapist, Elam Gari, a father of eight from Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State was said to have sexually molested the girl.

According to the NSCDC Commandant Waziri Gona, the culprit who often took the girl to a bush, always threatened to kill her, if she disclosed the illicit affairs to anyone including her guardian.

He told newsmen that Elam usually came from down Labariya to upper Labariya, searching for the poor girl before taking advantage of her in a nearby bush.

The victim recounted how she fell into the hands of the rapist: “I was on errand one day and I was pressed and wanted to ease myself in the nearby bush when a hand grabbed me from behind and when I tried to shout, he covered my mouth and threatened to kill me.”

She said the fear of her being killed, however prevented her from telling her uncle, another farmer in the neighbourhood.

“It was like he was everywhere I went as he always seized me from behind to dragged me into the bush,” she said.

Her guardian, Dahiru Timothy told journalists that he caught the man while dragging his nephew into the bush.

“We were about to eat when she sought to visit the toilet but when I realised that she was away for a while, I stepped out to confront Elam pulling her away.

“Then I shouted and seized him. Then I reported the case to the NSCDC,” he narrated.

Meanwhile, the counterfeiter arrested with $600, however, stated that she got the money from her boyfriend in Kano. She noted that she didn’t know the currencies were fake currencies.

“It was when I tried to change them to Naira that I was told they were fake,” she said.

The two ex-convicts, Saidu Garba and Haruna Majidadi, arrested for cases of alleged motorcycles theft and killing three owners of the items confessed to killing their victims before engaging other three members of the gang to dispose of the motorcycles.

They were arrested alongside three others: Tukur Abubakar, Wada Ahmadu and Abdullah Adamu for accomplices.

Saidu and Haruna reportedly met at a correctional center while separately serving jail terms for theft-related cases.
