Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria, Rev. Yakubu Pam, has requested the Federal Government to investigate the killing of the District Head of Numana Kingdom, Dr. Gambo Makama, his wife and two others.
CAN also demanded a probe of the murder of dozens of people in Kaduna and Benue States on New Year day.
Pam, in a statement on Wednesday, condemned the killing of Christians in the North and urged the government to fish out perpetrators of the crime.
“The attacks on Gwantu, Headquarters of Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna state where the District head (chief of Numana kingdom) Dr Gambo Makama, his wife and two other youths were gruesomely murdered on new year day is condemnable and worrisome.
“Also, we are worried of the attacks in Guma and Logo local government areas of Benue state where over 50 people were murdered in cold blood on same New Year day. This is equally disturbing and worrisome to us.
“CAN is not only condemning in these mayhem and carnage, but is calling for the immediate arrests and prosecution of all perpetrators of these heinous crimes.
“We are worried that the reluctance of the government in handling state security is causing more harm than good. If proactive measures have been taking before now, crime in the society would have been stamped out.”
Pam, however, called for calm in both communities where the attacks took place.
He also urged the government to step up security surveillance in the affected communities as well as the entire country to forestall future killings.
“We are assuring government of the church support. The church demands state protection to our members nationwide.”
