Naira slides further in official, parallel forex markets


The Naira, on Friday, depreciated to N1,660 per dollar in the parallel market, from N1,650 per dollar traded on Thursday.

Similarly, the Naira depreciated to N1,542 per dollar in the official foreign exchange market.

Data published by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the exchange rate in Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) rose to N1,542 per dollar from N1,540 per dollar traded on Thursday, indicating N2 depreciation for the Naira.

Similarly, data from FMDQ, showed that the exchange rate rose to N1,541.68 per dollar from N1,541.38 per dollar on Thursday, indicating 30 kobo depreciation for the Naira.

Consequently, the margin between the parallel market and NFEM rate widened to N118 per dollar from N110 per dollar on Thursday.
