More Rivers commissioners resign from Fubara’s cabinet

* To preempt gov’s alleged plan to sack Wike’s nominees

Four more commissioners in the cabinet of the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, have tendered their resignations.

The gale of resignations is not unconnected with the political crisis rocking the State, arising from the rift between Fubara and his predecessor in office, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

Reports quoted a source as saying that the resignations came amid rumours that the governor is planning to sack all members of his cabinet appointed by Wike.

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for the State, Prof. Zacchaeus Adango (SAN), had resigned earlier on Thursday.

It was also reported that Chief Emeka Woke, the Commissioner for Special Projects had resigned from his office, although at press time on Thursday night, there had not been any official confirmation of the development.

But the Commissioner for Works, Dax George Kelly; the Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, and the Commissioner for Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Inimie Aguma, had tendered their separate resignation letters.

That brings to five, the number of aides of the governor who resigned on Thursday alone.

Kelly noted in his letter addressed to the governor through the office of the Secretary to the State Government that his decision was based on conscience.

“My decision to resign is anchored on my conscience, personal philosophy and professional ethics. This decision was taken after deep introspect.”

He appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve the State in his cabinet
