The Presidency, on Thursday, dismissed claims that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, proposed N105,000 as new minimum wage for workers.
A newspaper report had quoted Western Post as saying that the new proposal suggests a minimum wage of N105,000 (approximately $220) per month for Nigerian workers.
But the story has suddenly disappeared from the Western Post’s portal.
Edu had, earlier in the day, submitted a minimum proposal to President Bola Tinubu, which has not been made open to the public yet.
The report that the Federal government is proposing N105,000 as new minimum wage has since gone viral.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga in an X post, described the story being reported as false.
“The Honorable Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the economy, Wale Edun has not proposed N105,000 minimum wage. The contrary story being disseminated is false,” he said.
Earlier, Edun submitted the minimum wage proposal template to the president, beating the 48 hours deadline given to him.
