A muscular man seen physically assaulting a woman in a viral video has been arrested by the operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU), Abia State Command, led by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday in the Ogbor Hill area of Aba following credible intelligence received by the unit. Acting swiftly on the information, operatives tracked down and apprehended the suspect
The VCRU restated its commitment to bringing those responsible for violent crimes to justice. It also encouraged residents to keep sharing helpful information with security agencies to help maintain law and order in the state.
Earlier, the Abia State Police Command announced that it had started investigating the viral video.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the Command is looking into the matter. She said they have started investigating to understand what happened and to identify everyone involved.
The statement said the police strongly condemns the alleged assault and emphasised that violence against anyone is a crime under Nigerian law.
The Command repeated its promise to protect the rights and dignity of all citizens and to make sure those who commit violence are held accountable.
DSP Chinaka said that domestic violence, physical abuse, and other types of assault should not happen in a civilised society.
She added that the police are committed to enforcing the law fairly and will act based on the investigation’s findings.
As the investigation continues, the Abia State Police Command assured residents that they will share updates when needed and remain committed to fighting all forms of violence and crime in the State.
