Lockdown: Buhari’s aide hints at possible extension

There are indications that the Federal government may extend the subsisting lockdown and restriction of movements occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Presidential aide stated that the government may extend the lockdown as the country continues to experience rising cases of the novel COVID-19 virus.

In a tweet on Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide on Social Media, Ms Lauretta Onochie, hinted that the lockdown may be extended if Nigerians refuse to abide by the current stay at home order.

She made the comment while responding to a question from a twitter user who asked if the current lockdown might be extended.

“Unless we stay home NOW, the #Lockdown, I would imagine, would be expanded and continue to be extended. The earlier we stay off the streets, the better for all of us.

“That’s how we can put the #AlmightyCoronaVirus at bay!” she tweeted.

Buhari had ordered a 14-day lockdown of the FCT, Lagos and Ogun states effective April 2, 2020, as a strategy to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

State governments had, on their own, locked down for the same purpose.
