Lockdown: Abia commissioner visits Aro LGA, lauds TC Chair over compliance with govt order

The Abia State government has commended the Transition Committee Chairman of Arochukwu Local Government Area, Mazi Emmanuel Kanu, for his efforts in strengthening the security of the State’s boundary areas with its neighbouring states.

The commendation was given on Saturday by the Commissioner for Home Land Security, Prince Dan Okoli, when he visited the TC Chair in Arochkuwu, during his tour of the boundary communities of the State, to evaluate compliance with the government’s lockdown directives.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had, in the wake of the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, ordered a seven-day lockdown of the State, and restriction of movements in and out of it, as a strategy to ward off the virus from entering Abia.

Okoli, on arrival, was received by Kanu, accompanied by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Arochukwu, operatives of the State Security Service (SSS), the Civil Defence Corps, the President of Nzuko Aro home branch, and the youths.

Kanu led his guest on a fact-finding visit to some boundaries routes, notably the Obotme-Nkana/Amuvi road connecting Akwa Ibom State.

The commissioner, in his speech, thanked the TC Chairman and his people for complying with the governor’s directives, and urged the maintenance of law and order, without compromising the lockdown order.

The TC Chairman, in his response, appealed to the commissioner for the deployment of some of his men to assist in maintaining order especially as the five clans of Arochukwu LGA have common boundaries with Akwa Ibom State.

He further thanked the commissioner for his visit, saying it has raised the morale of the people, that the government is doing all in its powers to keep the State safe from the pandemic.
