* Cites technical faults
The Lagos State Government has suspended indefinitely, operations on its Red Line Mass Transit Train Service (LRMT).
The Public Relations Officer of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Kola Ojelabi, who confirmed the development, said the Red Line rail is currently facing a mechanical fault, resulting in its suspension.
The train encountered mechanical failure on its morning service operations on Monday morning hence the suspension. A passenger, who boarded the train from Iju station on Monday, said passengers were instructed to disembark at Mushin, as the train could no longer proceed.
The Rail operators confirmed the suspension of services through a post on its WhatsApp channel on Tuesday.
“We sincerely apologise for the cancellation of service this evening, which was due to mechanical faults. Kindly note that the train will not be operating tomorrow (Tuesday), and until further notice. We deeply regret this situation”, the post read.
Ojelabi, however, said engineers are working to resolve the problem, and operations will resume once they confirm the issue has been fixed.
The Red Line commenced commercial operation on October 15, eight months after it was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu on February 29. The service took off with two services at the morning and two at evening peaks, resulting in four shuttles per day.
