Starting from the 2026/2027 academic session, all students enrolling in public and private schools in Lagos State must be registered with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
From Monday, September 14, 2026, schools must collect and record each student’s valid LASRRA registration number during admission and enrolment.
The Deputy Director at the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Adepeju Adeyemi, said the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, approved the directive to help create a complete and reliable database of students in Lagos.
Alli-Balogun explained that this initiative will help the government plan, monitor, and deliver better education services by providing accurate student data.
He also said that adding students to the LASRRA database will improve record-keeping, make it easier to identify and verify students, help with tracking, and support government agencies in making informed decisions.
The government has told schools to add each student’s LASRRA registration number to their admission and school records, and to inform parents and guardians about this new rule.
Schools should also remind parents whose children have not registered with LASRRA to do so before the new academic session begins.
The government also instructed schools to keep students’ personal information safe and confidential, in line with all data protection rules. His office, in collaboration with LASRRA and other relevant agencies, would develop modalities for generating and assigning unique PINs to learners.
Ogunmuyiwa added that support for awareness, registration, and verification will be available to schools, parents, guardians, and students.
He also said that following this directive will be part of OEQA’s checks and quality assurance in all public and private schools across the State.
Ogunmuyiwa urged parents, guardians, and school owners to make sure students are registered with LASRRA before the 2026/2027 academic session starts, emphasising that this is a mandatory requirement.
