The Lagos State Government has announced a final extension for the filing of individual annual income tax returns, giving taxpayers until April 21, 2026, to complete the process.
The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that the decision followed a surge in activity on its electronic tax filing platform after the previous deadline was extended to April 14.
According to the agency, the increased traffic on the eTax platform reflects the growing efforts by taxpayers to meet their statutory obligations.
“In view of this development, and to ensure that all taxpayers are provided with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their filings, LIRS hereby announces a further extension of the deadline, now set for April 21, 2026,” the statement read.
The agency described the extension as a final window granted in response to the overwhelming turnout, adding that it is aimed at enhancing convenience while maintaining the accuracy and integrity of submissions.
LIRS also reminded residents that filing annual income tax returns remains a legal obligation, urging all eligible taxpayers to take advantage of the extension.
Ayodele Subair, executive chairman of LIRS, reiterated that all tax returns must be submitted electronically through the agency’s eTax platform, which he described as the only approved channel for filing.
The state government had earlier directed individual taxpayers to file their returns for the 2026 year of assessment on or before March 31.
However, the deadline was first extended to April 14 to allow more time for compliance before this latest adjustment.
