Lagos arrests 8 LASTMA officials for alleged bribery

Determined to instill discipline and purge its operatives of corrupt tendencies, the Lagos State government has arrested 8 officials of its traffic control agency.

The 8 officials of Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were reportedly  apprehended for allegedly taking N7, 200 bribe from a commercial bus driver.

The state government said the allegation brought against the eight LASTMA officials had been referred to the Personnel Management Board (Discipline), which could earn them outright dismissal if found guilty.

This was revealed in a statement LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr. Olawale Musa, issued Sunday, lamenting that the action of the suspects might create perception challenge for LASTMA and Lagos State at large.

LASTMA had recently dismissed 20 of its officials for various corrupt practices and 15 others received letters of warning for various acts considered inimical to the agency and the state government.

As contained in the statement, the officials accused of taking the N7,200 bribe are: Adebeshin Adeola, Davies Idowu, Folashade Abolade, Shittu Lanre, Akinkotu Olusoga, Olowu Said, Olaoye Peter and Adebola Said.
