The Katsina State House of Assembly has expressed serious concern over what it described as the recent increase in bandits’ attack on some communities in the State.

The Assembly expressed the concern during its plenary on Wednesday, which was presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Nasir Yahaya-Daura.

During the plenary, a motion of urgent public importance was presented by the lawmaker representing Dutsinma Constituency, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Khamis.

Abubakar-Khamis called on the government to intensify efforts by deploying more soldiers and other security personnel to parts of his constituency in view of the increasing attacks by terrorists.

The lawmaker, who doubles as the Chairman, House Committee on Security, lamented that residents of the community are living in fear, hence the need for urgent intervention, especially from the Federal government.

“There’s the need for the government to deploy more security operatives to Makera, Gammo, Karofi and Dabawa wards in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

“The attack in these areas is increasing daily. The bandits recently killed residents, top security operatives, and also abducted other residents,” he said.

While commending the effort of the State government, he however called on the Federal government to redouble its commitment to complement that of the State.

Some of the lawmaker who contributed to the motion, expressed concerns over the situation, calling on the federal and state government to urgently restrategise.

Following series of contributions by the legislators, the House unanimously adopted the motion.

The House has forwarded the request to the executive for immediate action to enhance the protection of lives and property of the citizens.

Meanwhile, only a few days ago, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, had claimed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has stemmed the tide of insecurity in the northern region of the country.

Besides Ribadu, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has also claimed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has kept its promise to Nigerians to provide security in the country.

Bwala made the claim while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.

Bwala said: “He made promises in electricity, but let me tell you, look at the fundamentals. Number one promise, the security of life and the welfare of the people shall be the responsibility of the government.

“Look at us having a programme like this; before, you know how you would have moved in this country. Let me ask you, by extension, the Nigerian people.

“Recently, we’ve been having a series of problems in Benue. Has it not gone down? We have had in Plateau. Has it not gone down?

“Look at the IPOB issue, unknown gunmen. You know, 2022, 2023, the case of murder there. You know how they were kidnapping people coming to people’s houses in the heart of the town.”

Bwala further explained that insecurity had been degraded to a large extent.

According to him, what Nigerians currently see are criminal tendencies that do not correlate with whether someone is governing well or not, because they exist in every part of the world.

The presidential aide said: “Insecurity has been degraded to a large extent. What we are seeing in Nigeria is criminal tendencies that have no core relationship with whether somebody is governing well or not, because it exists in every part of this world.”
