Kano State governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has begun massive demolition of buildings approved for construction by the immediate-past administration of Abdullahi Gnaduje, which he considers illegal.
Reports say a number of buildings constructed on public areas were brought down by bulldozers in the early hours of Saturday.
A few hours after he was announced as Governor-elect, Yusuf began giving directives, part of which was a “threat” to demolish commercial shops and other buildings constructed within government-owned property or public areas.
A three-storey building with over 90 shops on race- course by Filing Sukuwa, Nasarawa GRA, was destroyed on the orders of Governor Yusuf by 2.00am on Saturday.
Governor Yusuf, who personally led the demolition exercise, was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammed Gumel.
A source close to Government House, said several buildings within the Kano metropolis, approved by the immediate-past administration, have been marked for demolition.
