JUST IN: Court jails Bobrisky for 6 months without option of fine

* Over abuse of Naira notes

Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment without any option fine for abusing the Naira notes.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Lagos, in her ruling, said the judgment will serve as a deterrent to others who are fond of abusing and mutilating the Naira.

The judge brought down the hammer after Bobrisky had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of Naira abuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Trouble started for Bobrisky after he sprayed money at the premiere of Ajakaju, a keenly awaited film by actress and producer Eniola Ajao, at Film One Circle Mall, in the upscale Lagos district of Lekki last month.

Videos of the event were widely shared on social media and this may have put pressure on the authorities to take action.

However, this is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity will be jailed for Naira abuse.

In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on new Naira notes.
