A Magistrate Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State, on Wednesday, sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Joseph Peter, to nine months imprisonment for stealing foodstuff and a gas cooker from his neighbour’s house.

Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Peter after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entry, and theft.

The prosecution counsel, Inspector Ijuptil Thiawur, told the court that the case was reported at the Anglo-Jos Police Station by the complainant, Ngumut Jacob, on January 11.

Thiawur said Peter stole foodstuff, a gas cooker, clothes, a laptop, and cellphone.

The prosecutor added that the offence is punishable under the Plateau Penal Code Law.

Delivering judgment, Bokkos sentenced the 23-year-old man to nine months imprisonment with an option to pay N20,000 as fine.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N130,000 as compensation to the complainant.
