American veteran actor, James Handy, known for his roles in “Top Gun: Maverick”, “Jumanji” and several television dramas, has died at the age of 81 following a stabbing incident in Los Angeles.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Handy’s home in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles.
According to the police, officers responded to a 911 call in which the caller reportedly said, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
When officers arrived, they found Handy unconscious in his front yard with multiple stab wounds to the chest. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy’s girlfriend, in connection with the incident.
Authorities said Gledhill lived at the residence and allegedly told responding officers that he was the person they were looking for. He has been charged with one count of murder and is being held on $2 million bail.
Handy’s agent, Pam Ellis-Evanas, confirmed his death and paid tribute to the actor.
“I could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy,” she said.
Born in New York, Handy built a career over five decades, appearing in films including “Jumanji”, “Arachnophobia”, “Logan” and “Top Gun: Maverick”.
He also appeared in television series such as “Law & Order”, “The X-Files”, “NCIS”, “CSI: NY” and “The West Wing”.
Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
