Groups, individuals react to Obasanjo’s statement on Buhari

Fayose

Obasanjo contributed to Buhari’s failure

Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose has said that former president Olusegun Obasanjo contributed to the failure of Buhari’s government.

He stressed that Obasanjo has outlived his usefulness in Nigeria and should leave the scene.Ayodele Fayose

“I agree with Obasanjo’s letter even though he didn’t say anything that I have not said about Buhari and his government.

“However, Obasanjo and Buhari are like the accuser and the accused; two of them are analogue and they do not represent the Nigeria of today.

“Obasanjo (the accuser) and Buhari (the accused) are both expired people that Nigerians are desirous of getting rid of.

“They both don’t know when they were born and have outlived their usefulness in the political life of Nigeria.

“The content of OBJ’s letter is a welcome development but the messenger is also culpable in the enthronement and colossal failure of Buhari.

“Though we warned them ahead of this tragedy, it is therefore the decision of Nigerians that Buhari has failed and he must go, not that of OBJ,” Fayose tweeted.

 APGA

Obasanjo not in a position to advise Buhari

The National Chairman, of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Victor Oye, in a statement said Obasanjo is not in the best position to advise Buhari.

According to him, Obasanjo was not justified morally with respect to his past administration in Nigeria to dictate if Buhari should run for second term or not.Victor Oye 1

“Obasanjo’s opinion and the opinions of Nigerians differ. People might have different opinions. What we need now in Nigeria is for us to remove unnecessary tension.

“Even if Buhari is not going to run in 2019, we shouldn’t create unnecessary tension because the man himself knows what to do and he doesn’t need Obasanjo’s letter to take such decision.

“It is Buhari’s entitlement to run for second term, but if he is saying he cannot run, he knows what to do.

“When Obasanjo was president what did he do? Was he a wonderful leader? Did he tar road in South-east? Enugu to Port-Hacourt road he didn’t do it. Okigwe to Oga he didn’t do it, and so on, and he busy talking about Nepotism. Obasanjo does not have moral justification to say such a thing.”

El-Rufai

I’ll react at the appropriate time

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, spoke through his Special Adviser on Media Muyiwa Adekeye denying knowledge of Obasanjo’s letter on Buhari.Governor el Rufai

“We are not aware of any letter written by the former Nigerian leader. But if we grab it we will study it and see whether it affects us or not.

“We will react at the right time,” he stated.

PDP

We have been vindicated

The former ruling party described Obasanjo’s letter as courageous, timeous and patriotic, adding that it has vindicated its position on President Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The party, however, rejected the call by Obasanjo for a third force saying that would amount to repeating the same blunder that brought in the ideologically vacuous APC and the Buhari Presidency which has now wreaked havoc on the nation in its almost three years of governance.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Tuesday, said “the fact that President Buhari and the APC had irredeemably failed our nation is obvious to all, adding that Nigerians have already taken an irrevocable position against them ahead of the 2019 elections.”Uche Secondus 1

According to the PDP, Chief Obasanjo’s counsel had rekindled the fate of the people in the democratic process, stressing, however, that the solution does not lie in creating another political quicksand in a third force but consolidating on a rescue mission with the repositioned PDP which Nigerians have already embraced.

He said: “The PDP is now standing on a truly democratic ground that perfectly represents and reflects the hopes and aspirations of all Nigerians irrespective of their class, creed or tribe.

“That is why our great party has now, more than ever before, become a center of the new patriotic and broad-based engagements by well-meaning Nigerians and coalitions across board, including past leaders, in rekindling our democratic process that places priority on returning power to the people.

“The fact is that Nigerians overrated President Buhari in 2015 but they have now seen that he never possessed the capacity and the required aptitude to effectively govern our great nation and pilot a healthy economy.

“This accounts for the reason former President Obasanjo, just like most Nigerians today, are concerned about the quality of presidential candidates to be presented by various parties for the 2019 election.

“The fact is that while the APC is already caught up with President Buhari, the PDP is open for a new engagement that will throw up the President, which our nation truly deserves at this crucial moment.

“We therefore call on Nigerians, including all our leaders across board, to come together to rebuild our nation on PDP’s consolidated base rather than traversing on another learning curve.”

ACF

Obasanjo can’t dictate to Buhari, APC

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), through its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammadu Biu, said it is President Buhari’s prerogative and that of his party to decide whether to re-contest or not.

The statement said: “The statement credited to former President Obasanjo that President Buhari should not run in the 2019 election, it is his democratic right to express his view like any other Nigerian on all issues, including democracy.

“However, it is President Buhari’s prerogative and that of his party to decide on whether to re-contest or not.”

Femi Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, also joined those that reacted to Obasanjo’s letter on Buhari, which went viral Tuesday. The critic tweeted:
