A former Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dauda Ali Biu, has died at the age of 62.

Biu, who was born in 1964 in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State, reportedly died on Sunday evening at a hospital in Abuja, according to reports quoting family sources.

Adamu-Isa Gunda, a nephew of the deceased, confirmed the death, saying the remains would be transported from Abuja to Chikaji, Sabon Gari, Zaria, for burial according to Islamic rites.

Gunda added that the deceased, who held the traditional title of Jagaban Sabon Gari, is survived by a wife and five children.

Biu served as Corps Marshal of the FRSC from July 2022 to 2024, after years of service in the organisation.

He was appointed acting Corps Marshal by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2022, following the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi, after completing his tenure.

Before his appointment, Biu served as Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, overseeing financial administration within the organisation.

He joined the corps in 1988 and rose through the ranks, serving as Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts in 2014 before becoming Deputy Corps Marshal in 2016.

Biu obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of National Accountants (FCNA).

Meanwhile, Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has expressed deep sorrow over Biu’s death, describing his passing as a significant loss to the organisation, the road safety community and Nigeria.

Mohammed said Biu’s death is a painful loss to his immediate family, friends, associates and colleagues, as well as the nation he served throughout his career.

He described the deceased as a distinguished officer whose professional life was defined by dedication, discipline and an enduring commitment to public service.

According to him, Biu joined the FRSC during its formative years and rose through the ranks, acquiring extensive experience in road safety administration and contributing to the development of the Corps.

The Corps Marshal noted that Biu’s leadership reflected his understanding of the FRSC’s mandate and commitment to strengthening its operational effectiveness and institutional development.

He added that the late former Corps Marshal’s contributions remained part of the organisation’s institutional legacy, emphasising that his death represents not only the loss of a former leader but also of a seasoned professional and colleague who dedicated a significant part of his life to public service and the safety of Nigerians.

“His contributions to the growth and development of the FRSC remain part of the collective legacy upon which we continue to build,” Mohammed said.

Mohammed extended condolences to Biu’s immediate family, friends, associates and others whose lives he touched, praying that they would find the strength to bear the loss on behalf of the FRSC management and workforce.

He also prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased and for the grant of Aljannah (Paradise).

“Rest in peace, Dauda Ali Biu. Your service to the nation will not be forgotten,” the Corps Marshal said.
