FG ratifies $186.6m Afam Power Plant project

 

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has ratified the contract worth $186 million for the Afam Power Plant to boost electricity supply across the country, according to reports.

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this while briefing State House Correspondents after the FEC meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa, Abuja on Wednesday. The minister said that the total package for the Afam Power Plant is $186.6 million and the contract for the substation is $2.207 million for the components that are offshore and N133.184 million for the local components.

Fashola said the council ratified the earlier approval given for General Electric to facilitate the project so that the country can complete 240MW of emergency power through 830MW turbines in 2017. According to him, FEC also approved the contract for the construction and rehabilitation of the substation to enable the evacuation of the power. This, he noted, will be achieved once the turbines are fully installed.
